ZIMBABWE Internationals Marshal Munetsi and Tawanda Chirewa are set to work under a new manager following the sacking of Vitor Pereira yesterday.
This followed a 3-0 loss to Fulham on Saturday, extending Wolves’ winless start to the 2025/26 season.
Upon his arrival at Molineux last December, Pereira and his coaches made an immediate impact, guiding the team to a successful second half of the Premier League campaign.
Munetsi arrived just after the manager, joining from Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims, and immediately made a huge impact.
Chirewa on the other hand is a product of the club, but his development seems to be slow as he was getting no game time since his arrival back from a loan move.
“Results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards, and as a result a change in leadership was deemed necessary.
“All eight of Pereira’s backroom staff have also left the club,” wolves.co.uk stated.
“Under-21 head coach James Collins and under-18 head coach Richard Walker will take training while the club finalise the appointment of a new first-team head coach.”
Executive chairman Jeff Shi gave the impression that the decision to part ways with the manager could not be avoided.
“Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful,” he said.
“Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.
“We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.”
For Munetsi it is another period he has to try and gain the new manager’s trust in a team with many other talented midfielders. His main strength has been the work he puts in for the team, defensively and in attack.
Chirewa on the other hand has proved to be one of Zimbabwe’s most exciting young talents, but at club level he has offered nothing yet, or has not been given a chance to prove himself. While the new developments are a sad chapter for Wolves, for Chirewa, it could just be his time to turn the corner.
“I’m disappointed today. I’m not proud of my wok, of our work, because I don’t know why. I don’t know if it’s because mentally, we put a lot of energy in the last game against Chelsea until the last minute,” Pereira was quoted as saying after the Fulham defeat. – Zimpapers Sports Hub/ wolves.co.uk.
