THE English Premier League returned over the weekend, with Marshall Munetsi making his competitive debut for Wolverhampton Wanderers in a challenging 4-0 defeat to reigning champions Manchester City on Saturday.
Munetsi, deployed on the right wing, thought he had marked the occasion with a first-half header, only for it to be ruled out for offside. Fellow Wolves player Tawanda Chirewa did not feature in the matchday squad.
In Liverpool’s 4–2 victory over Bournemouth on Friday, Zimbabwe-born youngster Trey Nyoni was named among the substitutes but remained unused.
Elsewhere in England, Marvelous Nakamba was again absent as his Luton Town side suffered a 2–1 defeat to Bradford City in League One. Brendan Galloway came on at half-time for Plymouth Argyle in their draw with Lincoln City, picking up a yellow card. Lincoln’s Tendayi Darikwa also featured and was booked. Wigan’s Isaac Mabaya missed out due to an Achilles injury sustained midweek, while Reading’s Tivonge Rushesha was left out of the squad for their fixture against Wimbledon.
Scotland, Tawanda Maswanhise played 76 minutes to help Motherwell edge St Johnstone 1–0 in the League Cup.
On the continent, KV Mechelen winger Bill Antonio featured in the final half-hour of a 1–1 draw against Gent in Belgium, while defender Munashe Garananga made his first start of the season in Denmark. Garananga lined up for Copenhagen in their 3–1 win over Nordsjælland on Friday.
