WARRIORS international Marshall Munetsi says it is important that all the players start contributing with goals for his English Premiership football side Wolves this season and was pleased to net against Everton on Tuesday evening.
The midfielder’s first goal of the season set the Old Gold on their way to a 2-0 Carabao Cup win over the Toffees, and Tolu Arokodare bagged his maiden Wolves goal late on, as Vitor Pereira’s side regained their positive feeling.
Munetsi and all of the group know it’s now important to carry this momentum into the English Premier League, and with goals coming from across the pitch in the past two games, that will certainly aid their quest.
He opened up on the joy that comes with winning.
“It’s an amazing feeling. It’s something we have been really pushing for. Obviously, in the league things haven’t been going well for us, but I think today the coach wanted us to really work on our physique, to try to dominate the game. I think we really pushed in the first half and obviously our confidence came from the first goal, and I think we tried to manage the game in a better way. It was really a great feeling to get a win and build on this for the next game.”
Munetsi also discussed the changes made by Wolves.
“We changed the system, and some guys played this weekend. It was a way of giving other guys some minutes in the legs. This is why you have a big group, for you to change and be able to adapt in certain ways, because we also have a big game coming up on Saturday that we need to really maximise.
“We need to build from this and try to work our way up on the ladder in the league.
“It’s a great feeling, but hats off to the defence, because they were really solid today. To get a clean sheet was very important, because we’ve been conceding goals, especially in the first half.
“So, scoring was good, but also having the clean sheet in the first 45 minutes was very, very important for us today.
“I’ve always had the attributes, so as soon as Jhon had the shot and the ‘keeper put it on the side, the main target was just to keep it down.
“I tried just to put my body on top of it and score. It’s a great feeling to be able to get on the score sheet.
“It’s something that we really need to work on. Larsen is coming back, he hasn’t been playing for a couple of games now, but we do have a great combination when we are playing forward.
“So, I think we need to contribute as much as we can to the team, to try and score as much as we can, so if we get clean sheets, we’ll win games by scoring.”
The Tolu contribution to Wolves triumph also touched Munetsi.
“We were actually joking, because I wanted to see the celebration. So, it was really nice for him also to score, I think he’s going to be very important for us this season. It’s a League Cup game, but going to the league, I think it’s very, very good for him to get that confidence boost.
“I think it’s very important to win. It also builds up the confidence in the group, the happiness, the joy. When you play football with such joy, then it makes life easier for everybody. So, I think we have to build on this. We know it’s not going to be an easy game, but with the way we did today, I think it’s going to be massive for us to take maximum points there.” — wolves.co.uk
