The Chegutu Municipality has admitted to pumping contaminated water to some of its residents, putting them in danger of disease outbreak.

According to council, the water was affected by cross contamination in Umvovo suburb, but it maintained that the water was safe for drinking, sparking outrage from affected residents.

Chegutu municipality’s town Engineer Ambrose Nyarumbu recently sent a notice to councillors admitting to supplying contaminated water, but said tests showed it was still safe.

The notice read: “Please note that after further thorough water tests and investigations of the water pipeline in Umvovo suburb, it has been discovered that there is some cross-contamination at House No 23823 and 23824 due to a damaged water main pipe.
