ZIMBABWE Cricket have announced that veteran all-rounder, Sean Williams will miss the Chevrons’ three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Ireland which gets underway at Harare Sports Club today.
Williams suffered a back injury during a New Year’s Day Test match against Afghanistan at Queens Sports Club last month and is yet to fully recover. He was named in the one-off Test match squad against Ireland last week but was not fully recovered, effectively ruling him out of the ODI series.
The 38-year-old Chevrons great will now be replaced by Tony Munyonga in the squad.
Munyonga is leading the run scoring charts in the Pro50 Championship with 308 runs in six innings at an average of 51.33.
The 26-year-old right handed Eagles batter has a strike rate of 115.78. He has three half centuries in six innings with a high score of 72.
Cricket fans are in for an exciting fortnight of international action as Zimbabwe prepare to face Ireland in a white-ball series. Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) confirmed that ticket prices for the series start at just US$3, ensuring affordability for all cricket lovers.
Meanwhile, ZC also announced that Canada will be touring Zimbabwe for three ODIs against Zimbabwe ‘A’ later this month.
The 50-Over series is scheduled to commence at Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfield on February 26 before shifting to Harare Sports Club for the remaining two fixtures on February 28 and March 1.

“A”. To aid their acclimatisation and preparation, the visiting side will play two warm-up matches against a Zimbabwe Academy team on February 20 and 23.
ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni welcomed Canada’s tour, highlighting the importance of international fixtures at various levels.
“We are excited to host Canada and expect a thrilling series against our Zimbabwe ‘A’ team. These matches provide an invaluable platform for our up-and-coming players to test themselves against strong opposition, which is essential for their growth and progression,” said Makoni.
This series forms part of ZC’s broader strategy to create more competitive opportunities for emerging players and further strengthen Zimbabwe’s cricketing depth.
