Police in Bulawayo have arrested three suspects in connection with two separate murder cases, including one involving a man who died weeks after an alleged assault.
In the first incident, police arrested Munashe Sibanda (18) of Mpopoma, Bulawayo, and Edgar Mqondisi Sebele (25) of Pumuza South Village in Plumtree, in connection with the murder of Sunnyboy Ncube.
Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said on 1 May 2026 at around midnight, Ncube was allegedly assaulted by Sibanda, Sebele and another suspect only identified as Gee.
The suspects assaulted Ncube with fists all over the body before stabbing him on the head with a knife.
Ncube was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital, where he was admitted and later died from the injuries on 30 May 2026.
Inspector Msebele said Sibanda was arrested soon after the alleged offence, while Sebele and Gee fled.
“On 26 July 2026, police received information that accused person Edgar Mqondisi Sebele was hiding at Pumuza South Village and reacted swiftly, leading to his arrest,” said Insp Msebele.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, police arrested Mongameli Nkomo (33) of Pumula South and Musawethu Mguni alias Monalisa (26) of Nkulumane, for allegedly killing Rineous Mavasa (36).
Insp Msebele said on 1 August 2026 at around 11pm, Mavasa was at a local shopping centre in Pumula South drinking beer when he was approached by Nkomo and Mguni.
The two suspects allegedly assaulted him several times all over the body with unknown objects following an undisclosed dispute.
Mavasa sustained head injuries and complained of abdominal pains following the assault.
On 2 August 2026 at around 10.30am, Mavasa was accompanied to make a police report and was later taken to Mpilo Central Hospital, where he died upon admission.
Nkomo was arrested on the same day at his home, while Mguni was arrested on 3 August 2026 in Bulawayo’s Central Business District, where she was allegedly hiding.
Insp Msebele urged members of the public to report violent crimes and assist with information that could help in ongoing investigations.
