THREE murder suspects who allegedly fatally attacked a man in Shurugwi in May this year before going on the run when their three accomplices were arrested have been nabbed by detectives in Mutare, where they had been hiding.
The suspects — Courage Goromondo (36), of Mudhakira Village, Chief Nhema, Shurugwi; Knowledge Matumbu (45), of Farm 45, Tokwe, Mashava; and Dzingayi Tauya (45), of ZBS, Shurugwi — allegedly killed Tinashe George Mutikinya after an altercation.
They allegedly committed the crime with Tabuda Chokoto (37), Spencer Sibanda (34) and Simbarashe Mhanga (30).
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the arrests and said detectives received a tip-off that the suspects were moving freely in Mutare and pounced on them at a bar in Chikanga suburb.
“On June 12, 2026, CID Mutare got a tip-off that the three were moving criminals responsible for a spate of violent crimes, including murder, in the mining areas. Detectives made a follow-up and arrested them at Chikanga council bar. The three were questioned and it was established that they were responsible for a Shurugwi murder case which happened on May 8, 2026 at Railway Block location.
“On May 8, 2026 an informant who was walking in a bush in search of firewood near Railway Block saw the body of Tinashe George Mutikinya lying facing downwards. He reported the case to police and the scene was attended. Investigations revealed that Mutikinya went missing after he was attacked by the accused persons and their accomplices, who include Tabuda Chokoto, of Mhangami Village, Chief Banga; Spencer Sibanda, of Mharira Village, Chief Nhema; and Simbarashe Mhanga, of Tinshale, Gweru, who had been arrested by CID Gweru and are in custody.
“CID Shurugwi was contacted and confirmed that the three were wanted in connection with the case of murder of Tinashe Mutikinya. The three are in custody assisting police with investigations. We want to applaud members of the public for providing information to the police. All with information that may lead to the location of suspects on the wanted list are free to contact their nearest police station,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
