NGEZI Platinum Stars forward, Delic Murimba can smile, at least for now.
The forgotten hitman ended a dreadful goal drought on Saturday when they thumped Greenfuel 3-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Baobab.
Bruno Mtigo and the club’s captain and man-of-the-moment, Qadr Amin, were also on target to drown the visitors.
Victory kept Ngezi Platinum on course to end an eight year wait for the league title and they are calling for the shots after accumulating 45 points in 23 attempts. It was Mtigo’s second goal of the season and a fine free-kick from Amini took his tally to seven leaving him trailing the leagues’ top goal scorer, Obriel Chirinda of Chicken Inn by three goals.
Murimba finally repaid the confidence which was placed in him by coach, Takesure Chiragwi.
Many were wondering what could have gone wrong to Murimba having finished the previous campaign as the teams’ top scorer after netting 13 times.
Before this match, the 24-year-old had last recorded a goal in the final fixture of last season.
He bagged four times in that assignment at the cost of the relagated WhaWha making him the last PSL player to manage that tally in a single match.
He had remained as the team’ odd one out in their offensive unit and Chiragwi could not have asked for a better time to have their chief striker firing. Murimba conceded that he was relieved with this goal and he credited Chiragwi for instilling his faith in him.
“I can say I’m now a relieved man, as a striker, your presence can only be felt if you are scoring goals for the club and I was becoming very worried,” said Murimba. “But, I want to salute our coach for the love he continues to show me in my darkest moments, I’m really grateful to everyone at the club for helping me to stay motivated.
“I hope this is now the start of something big, and I want to try the best I can in our remaining fixture get more goals as a way to repay the trust of my coaches.”
He added:
“It has been a good season for us, and our good run can be attributed to our collective approach, everyone is fighting for the club to finish in a better position.
“Our game by game approach is also helping us a lot in this race and we are going to continue with his strategy since it is working well for us.”
