AT least 5 000 participants are expected to line up for the third edition of the Musabvunda half-marathon, scheduled to start and finish at Blakiston Junior Primary School in Harare on May 11.
Building on the success of last year’s event, which drew over 2 500 runners, organisers are aiming to double participation, combining competitive athletics with family-friendly entertainment.
The event will feature both professional and social runners, with winners set to receive medals, hampers, and cash prizes.
Defending champions and veteran long-distance runners Moses Tarakinyu and Olivia Chitate, will be among the athletes vying for top honours again in this year’s race.
Beyond the race, organisers are planning a hive of activities for the which will include live performances by top musicians, powerlifting exhibitions, snooker, and children’s activities such as jumping castles.
Event founder Kudzai Pasipanodya said preparations are in full swing.
“Preparations are going very well, and we expect a huge turnout, at least 5,000 participants because this is more than just a marathon; it’s a family fun day,” Pasipanodya said.
“We’ll have sports, games, and entertainment throughout the day, making it a full experience for everyone.”
He expressed gratitude to the corporate partners whom he said had ensured the event continues to be on the radar and these include Seeff Zimbabwe, Coca-Cola, Diamond Pharmacy, Zimgold, CIMAS, GoldTech, Corporate 24 Health Care, 360 Adventure, Zimpure, Palawani, and Trysupps.
Pasipanodya said they would continue to champion health and wellness activities for Zimbabweans.
“At Musabvunda, we champion fitness as a lifestyle accessible to everyone, regardless of social or economic status.
“A healthy nation is a productive nation, and we’re committed to driving that message.”
Musicians such as Freeman, Silent Killer, Voltz JT, Baba Harare and Nicholas ‘Madzibaba’ Zakariah are lined up to perform on the day and ensure a full package for entire families.
