THE stage is set for the annual Texas Chickens Mr and Miss Zimbabwe bodybuilding contest this evening at the 7 Arts Theatre in the capital with about 100 athletes expected to take part.
The registration of athletes will close this morning as numbers are expected to soar. The country’s premier bodybuilding show comes a month after the Mr Ironman contest held in Kadoma.
Champion “Mbewe” Chienderamwano, reigning Mr Ironman, is one of the favourites while Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga fresh from winning the Mr Botswana contest, is also in the running.
National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness spokesperson, Quiet Shangai, said the battle of Mr Zimbabwe promises to be intense.
“The stage is set and everything is now in place and we expect a tough contest from the athletes in all categories.
“There is a lot of competition as we witnessed at the Mr Iron Man and I believe some even went to work even harder for this event,” said Shangai.
The event has managed to draw several sponsors which will make the contest appealing. The showcase will feature several categories, including ladies figure, ladies bikini, men’s fitness physique and wheelchair bodybuilding.
The competition will come in 13 different categories, with four of them featuring disabled men and women, the Masters and the Under-23 men making a first time appearance at the event.
Others expected to feature are ladies 2014 champion Wendy Hanse, ladies bikini model Carla King, reigning Mr Manicaland Brighton Mazikano and Tapiwa Chibeta, who put up a commendable show at the Iron Man contest.
Some of the partners who came on board include PEPFAR, Crystal Candy, Profitness Health Club, The Celebrity, Trust Me Security and Landel Engineering.
