Musengezi house fire under probe

POLICE are investigating a fire that gutted a house belonging to a Harare man, Mr Sybeth Musengezi. 

Mr Musengezi filed a police report soon after the incident, which occurred at his Sandton Park home in Harare on Saturday night. 

Police yesterday confirmed receiving a report from Mr Musengezi. 

“We confirm receiving a report from the complainant and we are now investigating the case,” said police national spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi. 

According to reports, nobody was hurt in the inferno, which was allegedly caused by a suspected petrol bomb that also damaged a vehicle and property worth thousands of dollars.

Mr Musengezi said police visited the house as part of investigations. 

Mr Musengezi posted a cryptic message on his Twitter handle on Saturday saying: “This is what they have done. Thanks to the neighbourhood vazodzima moto nema buckets (who put out the fire using buckets)”. 

The message elicited varied responses, with some people trying to tarnish the image of Zanu PF by apportioning blame on the ruling party.

But Zanu PF national spokesperson Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa came out guns blazing yesterday, saying the revolutionary party had “completely nothing to do with this outrageous act”. 

He said the police were better placed to comment on the issue. 

“This is more so in light of the sordid history of false flag operations of the CCC and other various camouflage and tentacles,” said Cde Mutsvangwa. “The despicable false flag acts have gone so far as to have the temerity to issue a fraudulent letter in the name of King Charles III of England. 

“This would earn the irreverent fraudsters a highly public disownership and denunciation by none other than the esteemed British Ambassador (Melanie Robinson). 

“It cannot be remiss that the house arson is an inside job seeking to elicit public sympathy on a floundering court case. The appeal to the Supreme Court is likely to be an exercise in frivolous and vexatious litigation for grandstanding and impressing busy body handlers.”
