Mushekwi for Super Diski return?

FORMER Warriors and CAPS United bustling forward Nyasha Mushekwi has been linked with two South African DStv Premiership sides amid revelations that the player is also earmarked for a move to Saudi Arabia. 

It is in China where the imposing forward has established himself as cult hero. His fine performances saw him finish as the China topflight league second top goalscorer scoring 18 goals for his paymasters Zhejiang. 

Mushekwi (36), a former basketball player, also scored two goals in the AFC Champions League. The Zimbabwean was beaten for the Chinese Golden Boot by his Brazilian teammate Léo Souza who is known simply as Leonardo. 

Mushekwi has reached double scoring figures for four years in a row at Zhejiang after scoring 18 last year, 23 in 2021, and 10 in his first season. 

Prior to that, the former Mamelodi Sundowns goal poacher’s numbers read 19, 16, and 15 at Chinese club Dalian Yifang.

Mushekwi has been double figures for 10 of the 13 years that he has played professional football in South Africa, Sweden and China.

According to Kick-Off, Mushekwi’s goals have attracted interest from two clubs in the DStv Premiership, who are mentioned as making moves on the former Zimbabwe international. 

He plays for Zhejiang Greentown in the top-flight, where he has been since 2019.

It has been reported that a move to either Saudi Arabia or UAE is also likely for Mushekwi at the end of this season.

The report said: “Whispers have suggested that there is interest from the Middle East where his earnings will be improved from what he is earning in China. The UAE and Saudi Arabia markets have been mentioned. 

“If Mushekwi moves to the Middle East at the end of the year, he will follow on the foot tracks of Brazilian forward Marcao who top scored in the Chinese Super League in 2022 before moving to Saudi club Al Ahli in January.” 

A comment could not be obtained from his handlers by the time of going to print yesterday. 

Mushekwi has been enjoying his game in China and continued to defy age.

Early this year, he surpassed South Africa’s Dino Ndlovu goal tally of 42 goals during his career in China.
