Mushekwi underlines striking reputation

as the Brazilians ended their two-week pre-season tour of Swaziland with a 2-0 win over the national team at the Mavuso Sports Centre.

Sundowns rounded off their two-week pre-season camp in Swaziland with a convincing victory over the country’s senior national team. The Brazilians dominated proceedings with such consummate ease, had they converted some of the gilt-edged chances they got, the scoreline could have easily reached double figures.

Zimbabwean striker Mushekwi, who proved a handful for the Swazi defence, opened the scoring as early as the 10th minute, finishing off unmarked inside the box after Elias Pelembe took advantage of a miskick by left-back Phumlani Dlamini.

Mushekwi, who won the Golden Boot at Sundowns last year in his first season in Super Diski, is set to be the main target man with Bafana Bafana World Cup striker Kathlego Mphela set to move to Europe.
The 3 000-strong crowd, which had braved the distinctively chilly weather, were still enjoying Downs’ swift passing, with Teko Modise buzzing again in the middle of the park, when the visitors went 2-0 up in the 29th minute through Musa Nyatama.

The goal was a perfect team effort as Surprise Moriri initiated the move, passing the ball to Modise who tossed and turned Manqoba Kunene, laid an inch-perfect pass to the on-rushing Franklin Cale, who set up Nyatama for the finish.

Sundowns continued to dominate proceedings, with any Sihlangu moves thwarted by the impressive Doctor Mapuru, Method Mwanjali and new recruit Punch Masanamela.
Johan Neeskens would be satisfied with his side’s showing, but will probably not be too pleased with Mushekwi, Pelembe and second half substitute Mabhuti Khenyeza’s woeful finishing. – KickOff.com
