Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Christopher Mushohwe yesterday sent a message of condolence to the Hukuimwe family following the death of Cde Edwell Hukuimwe, the former Mashonaland Central provincial information officer.
Cde Hukuimwe died on Tuesday night.
At the time of his death, he was working in the production services department at the ministry.
Dr Mushohwe said the ministry was shocked by Cde Hukuimwe’s sudden death and had lost one of its “experienced old hands who will be difficult to replace”.
“Cde Hukuimwe’s passing on came as a big surprise to all of us in the ministry because only last week he went about his chores at his workplace, production services, in his usual affable and jovial manner without the slightest hint that he was not feeling well,” he said.
“The week before, he was with us in Bulawayo manning the ministry stand together with other officers at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.
At production services, Cde Hukuimwe was working diligently among a team of film script assessors preoccupied with commissioning content productions.
“On behalf of the Deputy Minister, Cde Thokozile Mathuthu, Permanent Secretary Cde George Charamba, ministry staff and on my own behalf, I wish to express our sincere condolences to the Hukuimwe family, especially his wife Ruth and the children, on the loss of a dear husband, father and mentor.
“We are with them during their darkest hour of grief.”
Cde Hukuimwe joined the then Ministry of Information, Posts and Telecommunications in 1994 as an information officer.
On appointment, he was posted to Shamva District under the rural information services department.
He rose to become senior information officer and principal information officer between 1994 and 1999.
In 2005, he was promoted to acting provincial information officer for Mashonaland Central before being confirmed substantive in 2009.
He served in that post until November last year before joining the production services department.
He will be buried tomorrow in Mutawatawa, Mashonaland East.
