MUSHOWANI Stars defender Itayi Muganiwa is set to undergo a two-week trial stint at South Africa’s Absa Premiership side Black Leopards, B-Metro Sport has learnt.

Last year, the 28-year-old former Bulawayo City and Zimbabwe Saints leftback, was inactive after he suffered a career-threatening ankle injury while doing duty for the then Mandla Mpofu-mentored City.

The player was operated on in South Africa.

His agent Gilbert Sengwe said: “While Mushowani Stars might be deemed as PSL relegation candidates, the club has quality players. I can confirm that inquiries have been made on Itayi. At the moment I’m not at liberty to name the club that he will be going to but he will go for trials in December.”

The seasoned Muganiwa has been doing well for Mushowani Stars together with goalkeeper Admire Masuku, the defence pair of Carlos Musimwa and Chelsea Nyakope, industrious midfielders Clive Dzingayi,  Crybet Mavuti and forward Charles Rukwani.

The club recently beat Zimbabwe’s Caf Confederations Cup representatives Triangle 3-1 to move out of danger at least for now with the Bindura-based side now 13th on the log standings.
