Music Crossroads has joined hands with United States Embassy in commemoration of the jazz month. The commemorations will kick off on Thursday with the screening of jazz films at the Music Crossroads premises in Belgravia. Jazz musicians as well as fans are expected to attend the film shows which will continue to be showcased every Thursday till the end of June.Communications manager for Music Crossroads Elizabeth Ndhlovu said they will be partnering with the US Embassy Public Affairs Section to commemorate the not-so-popular celebrations.
“We have partnered with the US Embassy Public Affairs Section to celebrate the jazz month which a lot of people in the country are not familiar with,” Ndhlovu said.
“Our goal in to let people be aware of the celebrations as well as appreciate jazz music in general,” she added.
The initiative is expected to lure a variety of jazz music fans from around Harare as well as surrounding areas.
“We are hoping to get many people who appreciate jazz and anyone can attend including students from the Music Crossroads academy,” she said.
They expect the commemorations to grow bigger every year as they hope to incorporate more activities to the month in the near future.
April is the jazz month across the globe.
Celebrations for the jazz month take place in many countries with an array of activities taking place which relate to jazz music.
Music Crossroads in partnership with the US Embassy are therefore making efforts to popularise the jazz month commemorations.
The screening of the film will start at 2:20pm.
Zimbabweans who love the genre have also taken time to celebrate the jazz month over the past years though it is not very popular.
Music Crossroads is a non-profit making establishment which opened its doors to train and nurture music talent across Africa.
The Academy has trained students from Malawi, Mozambique and Harare with 25 percent of them female students.
