Upcoming musician Manzul “Fuzzy L” Fazlahmed broke onto the music scene two years ago with a new sound that he decided to call “Afro tonic” music. With a fusion of reggae, calypso and African elements he produced catchy songs like “Toda Kufara”, “Morning Come” and “Africa Unite”
While the music is popular with the underdogs in the music sector, Fuzzy L has decided to extend his territory.
Also a businessman and car spinner the musician is on a mission to prove the Afrotonic sound is not a passing wave.
In a new single entitled “Like My Music” that features Ammara Brown, Fuzzy L goes the extra mile and defines his style of music.
“My music has depth and fuses African instruments like the mbira even though it has traces of sungura, kongonya, calypso, reggae among other genres.
‘‘When I approached Ammara to feature on it she liked it and did justice to the hook and chorus. Her involvement was a stamp of approval,” he said.
The song is taken off his forthcoming album that will have at least eight tracks. In a popular song “Mugomba”, he is part of the diverse sound that also features rapper Mr See, Roki and Blackbird.
The song that is a hit on local radio and television is a display of brilliance that comes from fussing the best of different worlds.
“The response that I have had so far assures me that people will understand my music. I am not looking for popularity but artistry and depth on my work.
‘‘That is why I am proud of the success of ‘‘Mugomba’’ because it is nothing short of brilliance,” he said.
Speaking on follow up video, Fuzzy L said he was not going to short-change his music by not giving it a face.
He is currently working on video for the song “Like my music” as he has vowed to have at least three videos per album.
“Zim music should go on the global stage and the first step in putting our music out there is taking on the regional scene.
‘‘No instrument is powerful like the mbira and so we should capitalize on it,” he said.
On that note he urged local musicians to invest more time and creativity in terms of musical content and videos.
