Sungura star Alick Macheso has expressed deep sorrow following the death of music legend Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zakaria, announcing the cancellation of some of his scheduled shows as a mark of respect.

He was scheduled to perform in Chivhu this Friday and Mutoko on Saturday.

He posted on social media:

“Vatsigiri, tine hurombo nekumisa mamwe ema shows atanga takaronga vhiki rino,” Macheso said in a message to fans, confirming that performances at Phil-Jen County Lodge in Chivhu and Blueridge Restaurant along Mutoko Road have been cancelled.

Macheso, who regards Zakaria as a mentor and father figure, said the loss has shaken the entire Sungura fraternity. Their relationship dates back decades, with Zakaria being instrumental in shaping Macheso’s early career during his time with Khiama Boys.

He said more updates on his performance schedule will be shared in due course as he joins the nation in mourning one of Zimbabwe’s most influential music icons.
