ETHIOPIA-BASED song writer and composer Agnes Machigere, who hails from Bindura, Mashonaland Central, has come up with an anti-corruption song, which is set for release on July 2. The song, titled Fight against corruption, is in line with African Union’s 2018 theme: “Winning the fight against corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”.
Machigere, who is a member of the African Union Choir, said she gets most of her ideas for her music from the themes that they are given to perform as a choir at the African Union Summit each year.
The songstress said this year’s theme was on corruption and it coincided with the new dispensation led by President Mnangagwa, whose clarion call is to get rid of corruption in all sectors of the economy.
The song is prefaced by a speech by President Mnangagwa in which he talks about the negative effects of corruption on the economy and efforts to resuscitate it.
Machigere said she composed the song as part of efforts to support the new dispensation in the fight against corruption.
She said she wanted everyone, the old and the young to know the devastating effects of graft and to do something about it.
She is the leader of Tropical Vibes, which consists of three other members, Jona Chivasa, Farlon Munetsi and Nigel Nyagombe, who is also the producer.
To their credit, the group has produced three songs, “Agenda 2063”, “President Mugabe”, “Youth for the future” and “Fight Against Corruption” is their fourth song.
