Musicians march against ritual murders

Local musicians yesterday marched in Harare to protest against the recent ritual murder of seven-year-old Murehwa boy Tapiwa Makore.

Musician and philanhtoprist Ms Loveness Mainato, who co-organised the march, said the event was in solidarity with the Makore family over the loss of Tapiwa.

“We decided to unite as musicians in protesting against the killing of children,” said Mainato.

“We are saying these ritual killings must come to an end. If there is any n’anga, prophet or spiritual group encouraging the killing of children as a way of making money, we are saying that must stop.

“So, in marching, we were joining the Makore family in their bereavement and to try and console them.”

The boy’s uncle, Tapiwa Makore (Senior) (57), is accused of conniving with his herdsman, Tafadzwa Shamba, to murder his nephew.

The duo was subsequently arrested and is in remand while police continue hunting for their alleged accomplice. They were remanded in custody to October 26, as they are still assisting police with investigations.
