Musicians release substance abuse awareness song

Local musicians, Pauline Gundidza, Dhadza D and Fuzzy L, have released a substance abuse awareness song to commemorate World Mental Health Day.

The song titled, “It’s Never Too Late” was released on Tuesday in commemoration of World Mental Health Day.

It is part of the #takabuka campaign which was initiated by the artistes after seeing the effects of substance abuse on society.

The artistes are all passionate activists in their different spheres and came together to work on the song and video.

Gundidza, who initiated the project, said mental health issues were real, hence they should be taken seriously.

“Mental health issues are very real, and manifest in different social behaviours, including substance abuse,” she said.

“Artistes are also affected due to our exposure and the peer pressures of our trade. We did the song in solidarity with all those fighting substance abuse both in their own lives and in the nation at large.”

Gundidza said they worked on the music video in partnership with TrustAfrica, an organisation that recognises the power of art to reawaken and re-enliven communities. A representative of the organisation said they were privileged to partner with artistes on the #takabuka project to amplify the message against drug abuse, a message of awareness and a message of hope and possibility.
