MUSLIMS last week hosted an inter-faith dialogue attended by representatives from Christian denominations at Fatima Zara College in Hatfield, Harare to deliberate the benefits of human rights traits exhibited by Imam Ali — Prophet Muhammad’s son-in-law. Mr Abdullah Makwinja said Muslims were using such meetings to remove the veil of uncertainty between the world’s two biggest religions.
Iran Cultural Centre director, Dr Muhsin Shojakhani, was the guest of honour and among the presenters were Reverend Ngaware Malunga, Rev Leonard Muchineripi Kavhu, Mr Claude Cassels, Sheikhs Ishmail Duwa and Sheikh Mustafa Chingandari.
Rev Malunga made a presentation on Imam Ali’s core principles; which are justice, humility, faithfulness, anti-corruption, being God-fearing and non-discrimination.
He said if modern political and religious leaders imitated Imam Ali, the world would be a better place.
Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe representative, Rev Kavhu, gave a comparison of the Bible and the letter Imam Ali wrote to the Egyptians.
“We won’t be doing any justice to Imam Ali if we fail to implement his teachings. For this reason I call the rulers of this world to follow the example of his sound and humanitarian method in ruling which revealed the spirit of social justice and peace,” he said.
Sheikh Mustaf said the wise words of Imam Ali should be given a chance to govern humanity.
“He displayed bravery which is incomparable,” Sheikh Mustaf added.
Heavenly Culture World Restoration of Peace representative Mr Claude Cassels emphasised the importance of peace, noting that violence was mainly caused by religion and politics.
“And for us to have peace we should come together and work towards that goal as a united force,” Mr Cassels said.
Dr Shojakhani said the world was full of injustice and corruption because people misused religious and political power.
“Imam Ali was regarded as the gate of knowledge and he is the right source of our knowledge.”
Imam Ali is well-known for his contribution to spiritual thought.
