Musona marks 10th anniversary

REIGNING Soccer Star of the Year Walter Musona, is celebrating his 10th anniversary since making his Castle Lager Premiership debut for the now defunct Motor Action FC.

His major highlight in that campaign was his brilliantly struck freekick against Highlanders to force a 1-1 draw for the Mighty Bulls.

Musona’s strike was however, academic as Motor Action had already been relegated ahead of the fixture.

It however, ruined Highlanders’ championship chase.

Bosso eventually lost that title race to Dynamos and a sizeable section of their fans still curse Musona’s goal as they feel it was at the heart of their downfall in the 2013 campaign where they painfully came close.

He appears to have made it a habit to score when he faces Highlanders, last season, he netted late to down Bosso 3-2 at Barbourfields.

Last Saturday, the 28-year-old, was also on target when he scored the opener to hand Bosso their first loss of the season who had avoided a defeat in 19 fixtures.

Peter Muduwa scored an own goal which saw the champions claiming a 2-0 win to end their five match winless run.

There are now fears that Musona might have thwarted Bosso again in a season where many had tipped them to winning the championship.

Bosso are still in charge of the league’s proceedings with a two-point gap and they are expected to respond when they welcome Chicken Inn this weekend in the Bulawayo derby.

With Saturday’s 2-0 win, champions FC Platinum reduced Bosso’s lead at the top to 11 points and coach, Norman Mapeza said people should not be worried about their current position on the league table.

”We have been playing good football in our previous games but it’s just that results were not coming. I Have been telling the boys the significance of soldering on and if you look at our position on the log do don’t think much about it,” said Mapeza.

”Sometimes what is on the table does not reflect the performance and that has been our situation.

“Winning against Bosso is not going to change anything for us, because we are now maybe just a step up from the position which we where before this win. It is just a normal win for us.

”I will also give credit to Musona, Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, Brian Banda, and Juan Mutudza but I think the whole team was brilliant when we won against Bosso.”
