Mutare City Council Ward’s 19 councillor, Enock Pahla, has died. He was 65. Clr Pahla, who was elected into office on an MDC-T ticket, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday at Murambi Gardens Clinic after battling a mild stroke since Tuesday. He served as councillor for the ward from 2008 to the time of his death. Mutare Mayor Councillor Tatenda Nhamarare said council learnt of the death of Clr Pahla with shock, which came a few days after he attended a council meeting. He described the councillor as a dedicated man and unifier who commanded respect from across all political parties.

“Clr Pahla attended a full council meeting on Friday (last week) and he complained of a headache,” said Clr Nhamarare. “We took it lightly, little did we know that it was the last time that we will be together.

“He was dedicated to his work and was the brains behind the current renovations at Fern Valley Primary School and the expansion of the Fern Valley community as evidenced by the new residential stands.”

Clr Nhamarare described Clr Pahla as a good communicator who had a great relationship with his community.

“In numerous debates that we had in our council meetings, Clr Pahla’s views would sail through unopposed because he always talked sense,” he said.

Clr Pahla is survived by five children and 14 grandchildren.

Mourners are gathered at his Fern Valley residence. He will be buried at Yeovil Cemetery tomorrow.
