Chanter Gift “Shiga Shiga” Katulika has fired a salvo at his former boss Energy Mutodi accusing him of failing to honour his promises after the two failed to settle their differences at a meeting last week. Shiga, who will be launching his solo career on February 14 with an album titled “Two Years Later” said his former boss was not willing to fulfil his contractual obligations.
The two had a misunderstanding after the band members pleaded with the embattled musician to terminate their five year contracts they singed.
Shiga says he wants to completely untie himself from Mutodi’s band since he is bound by a contract that is not being honoured.
He added that Mutodi had proposed to terminate the contracts after recording the album “Ndinorota Landlord” but failed to honour his promise.
“He had agreed to let us go after recording this last album but now he is dragging his feet,” said Shiga.
Last week’s meeting, which was attended by Mutodi, his manager and Shiga, ended in a deadlock after the musician demanded that Shiga returns the money for the car that was bought for him. Shiga said he was made to understand that the cars were part of the signing-on package but has realised the money for the vehicles was given as loans.
“We had agreed that he pays our rentals but he failed to do so for a long time until I moved on. Now I remain part of the band because they say I have a loan.”
Mutodi fired back at Shiga saying the song “Ndinorota Landlord” was composed for him because he was the only band member who had problems with his landlord.
“He is a cry-baby who always says I dream about my landlord whenever the month comes to an end,” he said.
He added that he gave the green light to all his band members to do what they want but they still have working contracts.
“The contracts are still working, but I gave them the green light to work on their projects which Innocent Mjintu and Spencer have done without a problem. It is only Shiga who has a problem.”
Mutodi hired the services of Shiga, Khumulani and Gaison Sixpence for US$8 000 from Peter Moyo after the death Tongai Moyo.
He went on to buy luxurious cars for the duo before he was embroiled in legal battles that saw him abandoning live shows.
