NYASHA Muyambo believes he has turned the corner after a breakthrough performance at the just-ended 2025 FBC Zimbabwe Open at Royal Harare Golf Club.
Muyambo was one of only seven local players to make the cut at the country’s flagship golf event and described the tournament as a major confidence booster, and a valuable learning curve, as he looks to elevate his career on the Sunshine Tour.
The Zimbabwe Open served as the 2025/26 Sunshine Tour season opener.
Muyambo, a regular on the circuit, said the experience he has gained playing on the Tour has helped him to finally conquer a course that has long troubled him. “It was a great experience, it’s the first tournament of the Sunshine Tour season. I’m proud of myself for making the cut. There are a lot of positives to take from this week.
“I definitely believe I can do better. Now it’s back to preparation and focus for next year. I’ve really struggled with this course in the past but the Sunshine Tour has taught me a lot. I leaned on that experience, playing with the guys, understanding how they set up courses and used it to improve my game.”
Muyambo closed the tournament on four-over-par 292.
While he will skip this week’s Kit Kat Cash and Carry event at Irene Country Club, he confirmed that he will continue tracking the Sunshine Tour calendar and expects to play in most winter events.
“It was a huge step for my confidence and my game and I’m proud to have made the people around me, who’ve shaped me into the golfer I am, proud as well. That’s what we train for, to be in these positions and represent our country and families at the highest level.
“I’m now an affiliate member of the Sunshine Tour. I narrowly missed out on full status but I’m on track to qualify for most of the winter events. I’ll miss the Irene tournament, but I’ll play the next one in Benoni.”
In a light-hearted moment, Muyambo said he can finally share bragging rights with his legendary father, Day Muyambo, who used to remind him he had never made the cut at the Zimbabwe Open.
