MIGHTY Warriors skipper Felistas Muzongondi says the Olympic Games draw, where they have been pooled against two-time World Cup winners Germany, Canada and Australia, has provided them with a tough assignment but they relish battling the best.
The Mighty Warriors are making their debut appearance at the Games.
Assistant coach Sithetheliwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda and team manager Charity Munemo attended the draw in Rio de Janeiro.
“It is a strong group but we know the Olympics are difficult and there are no easy opponents so we expected this,” said Muzongondi.
“We have to fight and be strong. I think it is now up to the coaches to organise competitive friendly matches for us.
“Even when we played Cameroon no one gave us a chance, so if we achieved what we achieved we can still do more and do well in Brazil.”
Germany have won the World Cup twice in 2003 and 2007.
The Mighty Warriors toured Germany for a training camp in 2011 and skipper Muzongondi said although they got some international exposure it will not count much in Brazil.
“We have met German opposition at club level when we faced some clubs from the German Bundesliga lower leagues but that was long time back, about five years back, and a lot has changed,” said Muzongondi.
Zimbabwe will meet Germany in their first match on August 3 at the Itaquera Arena in Sao Paulo.
Three days later they meet Canada before they complete the group stages with a clash against Australia on August 9.
