LLOYD MUTASA’s MWOS underlined their title credentials when they burst the Chegutu Pirates bubble in a Northern Region Division One, Mashonaland West derby clash at Ngoni in Norton on Saturday.

The 2-0 win was a greeted with joy as MWOS have somehow found it hard to win at home in Norton.

The derby win was actually their second at home since Mutasa took over from Wonder Ngoko at the ambitious club.

A first half-strike by Livingston Genti on 42minutes was complemented by the seasoned Cleopas Kapupurika in the 62nd minute to seal victory for MWORS.

Mutasa, who revealed that he had used the transfer window to boost his squad is optimistic about MWOS’ future.

He also dedicated the win to their fans who have stuck with them despite the team playing better away from home.

“We are looking forward to a better future with the coming in of the new guys.

“We would like to be the best team in the second half of the season and where it will take us, nobody knows,” Mutasa said.

“The boys really played well against Chegutu Pirates. We created a lot of chances and I’m happy with the attempts at goal. The lads were fantastic.

“If you want to achieve anything in football, you have to appease the home fans. It’s very pleasing to see our fans coming out in full force to support the team,” said Mutasa.

Elsewhere, unbeaten log leaders Black Mambas stretched their run to 19 games without loss when edging stubborn Banket United 1-0.

Victory ensured that coach John “Toto” Ncube and his policemen maintained their three-point lead at the top ahead of Harare City who kept within shouting distance following a 3-0 thumping of whipping boys Concession United.

Jameson Masaza found the solitary strike that gave Mambas their 11th win.

Despite losing almost half his squad during the mid-season transfer window, coach Joseph Takaringofa has somehow managed to keep the sun shining in the Sunshine Boys camp as Harare City continue to keep the pressure on Mambas.

Harare City got their goals from Alois Gwanzura with a brace and Amon Kambanje.
