VILLAGERS from Billars on the outskirts of Bulawayo are being haunted by mysterious lightning which struck a certain homestead leaving it in flames for a period of three days.
The villagers are afraid of moving closer to the homestead as itas reported that before it went up in flames a small white ball was seen landing on its roof before turning into black and setting it alight.
It all happened in broad daylight.
The villagers believe there is more to the mysterious lightning as the owner of the homestead died a bitter woman.
a?The owner of the homestead Mercy Moyo died last year in October. She was worried about her home as the person whom they had hired to look after it had started building his rooms.
a?Moyo told her children that they should tell the man Mavengere to move out of her homestead, but he never did.
a?Surprisingly after Moyoas death, Mavengere claimed the old woman had given him the homestead and refused to vacate,a? said a close relative, Sazini Mangena.
Unfortunately, Moyoas three children did not have the strength to fight and they left Mavengere to stay at the homestead.
a?The mysterious lightning struck Moyoas kitchen and villagers are still shocked with the way it happened.
a?Villagers did not even move closer to the burning house and it was on fire for three days and was only put out by the rains.
a?Itas now my problem because villagers are saying they fear for their lives as the mysterious lightning may strike again if a cleansing ceremony is not held,a? said Mangena.
She revealed that when she phoned Moyoas children, the last born made it clear that he was not returning to the village and the first born said he was in Mberengwa and did not have transport fare.
a?Since I am related to the Moyos, villagers assigned me to contact the children and when I did Polite said he was not going to come back to the village and Peacemore made it clear that he did not have money.
a?It is unfortunate that the villagers are now troubling me about the issue, but if the worst comes to the worst we will hire someone to cleanse the homestead,a? said Mangena.
The village head Airforce Mangena said the incident had left the villagers in fear and a cleansing ceremony should be done immediately.
a?Villagers fear for their lives because customarily if such a thing happens, a cleansing ceremony should be held as soon as possible.
a?If nothing is done, it will happen again at another homestead because it is believed that it leaves some eggs,a? he said.
Efforts to get a comment from the new owner of the homestead Mavengere were fruitless as his phone was unreachable and his whereabouts were unknown.
The other villagers revealed that they believed Moyo was fighting from her grave.
