A 30-YEAR-OLD mine worker collapsed and died just minutes after bidding farewell to his employer at a mine in Hope Fountain, Bulawayo. In a statement, Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the incident occurred on 3 July at around 3pm.

“On 3 July 2026 at around 3PM hours, the owner of the mine in Hope Fountain, Bulawayo, was approached by the now deceased, Munyaradzi Makore, who said goodbye before walking away. The mine owner did not suspect anything unusual,” police said.

Barely 10 minutes later, had tragedy struck.

Police said one of the mine workers noticed Makore standing within the mine premises, appearing to be in severe distress.

“The witness observed that the now deceased was no longer able to speak. He appeared to be trying to say something but could not, and was showing signs of being in pain,” said Insp Msebele.

The worker immediately alerted the mine owner and the two rushed to where Makore was.

By the time they reached him, he had collapsed to the ground.

Believing he could be having a seizure, they removed his shoes in an attempt to assist him.

However, despite their efforts, his condition deteriorated rapidly and he died at the scene.

Police who attended the scene observed a white unknown substance coming from the right side of the deceased’s mouth.

The body was taken for post-mortem as investigations continue to establish the cause of death.

Police have not yet determined what caused the man to collapse and are awaiting the outcome of further investigations.
