Mzila-Ndlovu fate sealed

THE MDC’s National Committee has endorsed the sacking of the party’s secretary general secretary general Moses Mzila-Ndlovu. The decision to fire Mzila-Ndlovu was upheld by the MDC national committee following a resolution by the standing committee to fire him in February.

The MDC’s national spokesperson, Kurauone Chihwayi, said the party is also dealing with disciplinary cases against petitioners who sought the ouster of party leader Professor Welshman Ncube.

“Council noted the vote of no confidence passed on the former secretary general Moses Mzila-Ndlovu by the Standing Committee and endorsed it. It also noted the petition against the leadership of the president by a few members of council based in Bulawayo and the subsequent suspension by the National Disciplinary Committee of some of them pending appearance before the committee on misconduct charges,” said Chihwayi.

Recently, Prof Ncube told a rally in Njube suburb that Mzila-Ndlovu was a regionalist who did not want the MDC to have a national outlook.

Mzila-Ndlovu, however, said he was side-lined by the MDC leader, making it impossible for him to execute his duties as the party’s secretary general.

Chihwayi said the party’s national committee expressed confidence in Prof Ncube’s leadership. “Council expressed full confidence in the leadership of the president, vice president and the rest of the leadership collective,” he said.

Chihwayi said the national committee also recommended that the MDC should speed up processes leading to the party’s congress.

“Council duly noted these reports and instructed the Standing Committee to expedite the processes for the convening of the party congress during the course of the year and authorised the composition of delegates to congress. The council also instructed provinces to work on recruitment, party building and mobilisation programmes which prioritised community based issues,” he said.

Chihwayi said the MDC’s standing committee was working on forging alliances with other opposition parties.
