POLICE in Mzilikazi swooped on three suspected robbers who allegedly staged a violent night raid at Alticon Logistics in Bulawayo and left a security guard tied up, stabbed and gagged before attempting to loot a truckload of building material.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the dramatic arrest and said officers reacted quickly after receiving a tip off.
“On 06/12/25 ZRP Mzilikazi swiftly acted on received information and arrested Mthabisi Ndlovu (25), Donson Dube (22) and Tatenda Choga (23) in connection with a robbery case which occurred at Alticon Logistics in Bulawayo,” he said.
The trio allegedly arrived masked up in balaclavas and armed with okapi knives and a screwdriver. Commissioner Nyathi said the gang stormed onto the premises and pounced on the lone guard.
“They blindfolded him with plastic, gagged him with a cloth and tied his hands and legs with wire before stabbing him three times on the right leg with a screwdriver,” he said.
Thinking the guard was down for good, the suspects pushed into the warehouse where they allegedly began loading loot into a truck. According to police, the stash included 37 six metre zinc sheets, 13 bundles of plain wire and 23 standard door frames.
But their mission collapsed when officers moved in and caught them in the act.
In a twist that points to an inside job, Commissioner Nyathi revealed that “preliminary investigations have revealed that one of the suspects was previously employed by the company.”
Police have since warned businesses to strengthen security and urged the public to continue supplying information that can help crack similar cases.
