THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) successfully held their Open Track and Field Championships at White City Stadium on Saturday.

The event saw over 100 athletes gather for the meet.

The 100m women’s final was won by Privilege Bower in a time of 13.64 seconds.

In second place was Awakhiwe Mdlongwa who ran 13.87 seconds.

Bower also won the 200m women’s final finishing the race in 25.38 seconds.

In the men’s final of the same event, Delight Matede ran 10.75 seconds to win the race.

Second place went to Johnson Matika who crossed the finish line in 11.15 seconds.

Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) chairperson Watson Madanyika was pleased with how the event panned out.

“The event was a huge success. We had athletes from all over the country taking part. It’s important to note that athletes are now getting into better shape post Covid-19, this should see the times improve,” said Madanyika.

Next up for Naaz will be the Gift Chigwere Junior Championships to be held in Bulawayo on April 8, which will be the final selection meet for the Africa Junior Championships.

The event scheduled for White City Stadium is expected to draw athletes from around the country.  — @innocentskizoe
