HEALTH and Child Care Minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora has applauded the National AIDS Council (NAC) Board for growing institutional discipline and improved governance.
Speaking during a meeting with NAC board members in Mutare yesterday, Dr Mombeshora said the gains place the organisation on firmer ground as Zimbabwe prepares to launch a new National Health Strategy.
He said the new NAC five-year strategic plan, completed this week, will benefit from the stronger systems now in place, while urging the board to use its renewed institutional footing to drive a more coordinated national HIV response.
“It now has to be turned into actions towards fulfilment of your mandate. A plan on paper means little unless it delivers real change for the people we serve, so you must ensure its implementation is timely, consistent and measurable,” he said.
Dr Mombeshora also commended NAC for contributing to the successful establishment of renal and blood units at Parirenyatwa Hospital, saying it showed the national value of a stable and well-governed institution.
NAC board chairperson, Mrs Nester Mukwehwa said the board was committed to maintain strong governance as the country prepares for the new National Health Strategy.
“We must continue prioritising efficiency and accountability. Delayed procurements and poor utilisation of disbursements have no place in our work,” she said.
Mrs Mukwehwa added that a disciplined institution was essential for sustaining Zimbabwe’s gains, including reaching the global 95-95-95 HIV targets.
“Our response must remain integrated and scalable for the wellbeing of our people,” she said.
