AGAIN there was no place in the Aston Villa starting line-up for Zimbabwean International Marvelous Nakamba who was an unused substitute as they cruised to a 4-0 victory over Brentford yesterday.
The Warriors midfielder has not featured for Villa this season, a development that has left many people perplexed considering he was one of the side’s key players especially towards the end of last season.
In the absence of Boubacar Kamara and Aaron Dank sitting in the Aston Villa dugout following the sacking of Steven Gerrard, Villa won big but again Nakamba played no part.
With Kamara, who had seen Nakamba relegated to the bench not available, there was some hope that the Zimbabwean midfielder would get a chance to start or get sometime on the field but it couldn’t be.
Douglas Luiz had his red-card reversed meaning he was available for selection but he did start the game.
The victory was Aston Villa’s first in over a month. Nakamba together with Morgan Sanson as well as Fredrick Guilbert have struggled to get game time at Villa this season and had been placed on the transfer list during the summer transfer window.
During the summer transfer window, Villa retained central midfielder Luiz despite a late bid from Arsenal and also signed another defensive midfielder, Leander Dendoncker from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a permanent deal worth around £13 million. This created more competition for Nakamba.
Nakamba started his career in Zimbabwe before his first taste of European football with Nancy in France.
