WARRIORS coach Baltemar Brito has appointed Luton Town midfielder Marvelous Nakamba as the national team captain.

The 29-year-old will carry the responsibility for the first time at Huye Stadium in Butare where the Warriors play Rwanda in their opening 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Nakamba has been selected along with Marshal Munetsi and Teenage Hadebe.

The three are the longest serving members of the current squad which has so many new faces.

The senior national team will be hoping to make a happy return to international football as today marks their official return since they were suspended by FIFA early last year.

The ban was only lifted in July with the appointment of a Normalisation Committee led by Lincoln Mutasa.

After today’s game, Zimbabwe will remain in Rwanda awaiting Nigeria who they “host” at the same venue on Sunday.
