MARVELOUS Nakamba is edging closer to a sensational return to the English Premier League, possibly as soon as this weekend.
The Zimbabwe captain has been the subject of renewed interest from EPL clubs, and a move is now looking increasingly likely, according to a source close to the midfielder.
“It’s true, a number of clubs including those from the EPL have expressed interest,” the source told Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday.
“So far, nothing concrete, but you should expect some announcement this weekend. The boy is fit and eager to wrap up his next move should it materialise.”
Nakamba, who’s still contracted to Luton Town until mid 2026, hasn’t featured in any of the club’s pre-season matches, fuelling speculation that he could be on his way out.
He was also absent when Luton drew 0-0 with Tottenham Hotspur last Saturday.
The 31-year-old midfielder joined the Hatters from Aston Villa in July 2023 on a three year deal, but following Luton’s back to back relegations, from the Premier League in 2023/24 and now from the Championship to League One, his future at Kenilworth Road is hanging by a thread.
Head coach Matt Bloomfield, has confirmed that Nakamba is attracting interest and that the club is open to the right offers.
“Marv (Nakamba) has been a fantastic player for our football club, but he’s someone who played in the Premier League two seasons ago and has attracted interest,” Bloomfield told Luton Today.
The club’s willingness to cash in on the Warriors skipper is partly driven by financial realities after the demotion.
Though Nakamba missed a chunk of last season with a nagging injury, and sat out Zimbabwe’s World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria earlier this year, he is now fully fit and training, awaiting clarity on his next destination.
Apart from interest from England, clubs in Belgium, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the USA are also circling.
Nakamba began his European journey with Nancy in France before moving to Vitesse in the Netherlands.
His profile grew at Belgian giants Club Brugge, earning him a £10 million move to Aston Villa in 2019, making him one of Zimbabwe’s most high profile exports.
