THE National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has officially unveiled the dazzling array of artistes set to ignite the stage at the 24th edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), confirming expectations of an unforgettable celebration of Zimbabwean creative excellence.
Slated for February 28, at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), this year’s ceremony, themed “Fearless Creativity”, promises a potent mix of established icons and vibrant new voices across diverse genres.
Following a rigorous selection process from a staggering 1 117 submissions – all works produced between December 1, 2024, and November 30, 2025 – the NACZ has curated a performance line-up designed to embody the bold spirit of the theme.
The stage will pulsate with energy from a who’s who of Zimbabwean music and performance: Gospel sensations Ministers Ellard and Sharon Cherayi and Vabati VaJehova, dancehall king Freeman, Hip hop artiste Bling4, jiti maestro Baba Harare, Afro-jazz stalwarts Plaxedes Wenyika and Dino Mudondo, versatile hitmakers Alexio Kawara and Sane Wavi, the ever-popular BaShupi, and the legendary Sekuru Gudo.
The dynamic Chillspot Family will also be a part while Chillmaster, Fab G, Shone, Lil Eliana, and Snowy, alongside Runna Rulezi, Dorcus Moyo, Junior Spragga, Young Gemini, Skhue, songstress Natasha Mlalazi, Paddington Chiwashira, songbird Melyssa, and the captivating Cleo Arie.
This diverse roster underscores NAMA’s commitment to showcasing the full spectrum of Zimbabwe’s thriving arts scene, from traditional roots to contemporary urban beats and soulful melodies.
The announcement comes amidst significant optimism from the NACZ. Barbra Gotore, the Director for Arts Promotion and Development, recently highlighted the impressive volume of submissions speaking to the resilience and prolific output of Zimbabwean creatives.
Adding a fresh dynamic to this year’s event is the appointment of a new management team tasked with delivering a seamless and spectacular show. Reginald Matinanga, Managing Director of Scarlet Studios, and Talent Banda, Chief Executive Officer of Events Evolution, bring their extensive experience in event production and artist management to oversee the prestigious ceremony.
Their appointment signals NACZ’s intent to elevate the production quality and overall experience of the awards night.
The NAMAs remain Zimbabwe’s most prestigious arts awards, honouring outstanding achievements across various disciplines, including music, visual arts, literary arts, theatre, dance, film, and media.
While the nominees across these categories generate immense anticipation, the performance segment is always a major highlight, offering a live snapshot of the nation’s artistic pulse. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
