A DELEGATION from Namibia’s office of the Attorney General is in the country to consolidate relations between Zimbabwe and Namibia and to look at the operations of their Zimbabwean counterparts.
The seven-member delegation led by the Namibian Attorney General, Mr Festus Mbandeka, yesterday visited Attorney General Mrs Virginia Mabiza where they discussed areas of mutual interest.
In an interview after the meeting, Mr Mbandeka said they were in the country to learn how they can reform their institutions.
“The purpose of our visit is to consolidate the existing relationship between our two countries and our two offices, the office of the Attorney General in Zimbabwe and the office of the Attorney General in Namibia,” he said.
“We are also here to learn from our colleagues and to understand how the institution operates, and the best practices that we can use to improve and reform our institutions. The primary purpose is to provide quality services to our people and access to justice for our people.
“The Attorney General’s office in Zimbabwe has made a lot of effort to give us the necessary information and also to make our stay here very comfortable. We are very glad that the Attorney General here is putting all the effort into making the necessary arrangements for us to get necessary briefings that we require.”
Mrs Mabiza said Zimbabwe was very old in terms of its legal system hence some countries want to learn from it.
“We got our independence earlier and we also have a lot that we have experienced over the years to enhance our judicial system,” she said.
“In as much as there is something to learn from us, we are also learning from others. We are very happy and by coincidence this is a very important week in the history of SADC.
“It is the Industrialisation Week here in Zimbabwe and we are looking forward to hosting SADC and whilst speaking of SADC, we believe that it is about our Heads of State meeting but also we should meet at our levels to enhance the vision of our leaders.”
