THE Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association has extended registration for a six-month course in African Traditional Medicine to April 28.
Enrolment started in March and the extension seeks to accommodate those who can read and write but are interested in studying Traditional Medicine.
Zinatha national education secretary Mr Prince Mutandi Sibanda said upon completion of the course, which includes internship, graduates would get certificates.
“This is a course which opens the eyes of all those who have a passion to learn about African traditional medicine,” he said. “We will offer day and weekend classes at our offices at Red Cross House in the city. So all those interested should consider getting in touch with us through our offices countrywide.”
Traditional medicine is increasingly gaining value around the world.
“We will have modules which include Introduction to African Traditional Religion, Themes in African Traditional Religion and culture, and the practical application. Practicals will include visiting healing practitioners, surgeries, herbalists, bonesetters, ritual ceremonies, diviners, spirit mediums and others,” said Mr Sibanda.
He explained that the major objective of the course was to create awareness and understanding of skills for effective treatment using traditional medicine, as well as to encourage co-operation between traditional healers, conventional medicine and faith healing.
“Through this programme, we seek to uphold the importance of indigenous religious and cultural spiritual world views in attainment of holistic healing. Graduates will either be herbalists or midwives but most importantly they will gain knowledge of ATR,” he said.
