NJABULO Bhango, the chairman of the National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph), Bulawayo Metropolitan province, was full of praises for the Bulawayo Table Tennis Association for conducting a training programme which had the main objective of reviving the sport in the city. Speaking during a table tennis workshop organised by the BTTA at the Drill Hall in Bulawayo on Friday, Bhango said the initiative was welcome as it supported the Naph vision.
“By staging such an event BTTA has covered two of our strategic areas of provisional development in sport and the other being of establishing schools in solid sporting foundation of. As Naph we are very excited when associations as BTTA support our objectives,” said Bhango.
Initially, the workshop was scheduled for 18 September but was moved as it clashed with a number of activities in the schools calendar.
The Naph chairman also urged all the participants to relay the knowledge they acquired to their constituencies so as to expand the development of the sport provincially.
“It is our hope that all the partakers will cascade what they have learnt from this workshop to other members, since there are a number of sporting personnel from different divisions.
“If the information is disseminated properly it will benefit the whole province,” said Bhango.
In a move meant to motivate and encourage mass participation in the sport, BTTA donated a table tennis table to St Columbus High School.
Conducting the workshop which had a field of 80 primary and secondary school teachers, BTTA technical director Prosper Jaya, said by reviving the sport in the city, the association hoped to come up with a schools committee which will be responsible for organising events at their level.
“From this workshop, we are also hoping to select a schools committee that will help in coming up with events for both primary and secondary schools,” said Jaya.
Meanwhile, BTTA is expected to hold a Level One Coaching Course next January.
The course’s facilitator will be an administrator from the International Table Tennis Federation.
