SICELO Dube the National Association of Secondary School Heads chairman is happy with the strides Matabeleland North has made in athletics in the last years.
He said this on the opening day of the province’s inter-district finals at Somvubu Secondary School in Bubi District on Wednesday at an event which ends on Thursday.
He says while they have stayed a basement team, the province has improved in terms of quality medals, which is sign that they are going up.
“In terms of gold medals we are moving up, which means others are going down. A lot has been done,” said Dube.
Matabeleland North has been the table anchors of secondary schools’ athletics competitions at national level.
Dube said the province will count on a long jumper from Gloag High School who won a medal at the Southern Africa Championships last year and superstar Tulange Mudenda who is strong in the 3000m.
He said they would be happy as a province to have 10 quality athletes who can bring medals at the national finals to be held in Harare at the end of this month.
Dube noted the challenge with Matabeleland North a very big province with most of its population rural, that getting to meet and train at one place is difficulty.
