PROTON Bakery and the Surrey Group will unveil a $5 000 sponsorship package for the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) Under-20 tournament in Harare today.

Nash vice-president Arthur Maphosa welcomed Proton Bakery and the Surrey Group partnership, saying the sponsorship is a vote of confidence for his association as well as their development goals.

He said the national finals will be held in the third term.

“As Nash, we’re happy that corporates continue to partner us and tomorrow we shall be unveiling a sponsorship package from our partners Proton Bakery and the Surrey Group in Harare. Obviously we’re excited and hope this partnership will stand for a long time. It is our hope that this sponsorship will motivate all participants and bring the best out of the players as they compete and develop their talent,” said Maphosa.

The package will see winners of the tournament getting $800 and a shield, with the runners-up walking away with $500.

The four teams that will make it to the semi-finals will each receive playing kits.

Proton Bakery and the Surrey Group will also sponsor individual accolades for the player of the tournament, the top goal scorer and goalkeeper of the tournament. There is also a prize for the most disciplined team.

Simba Bodzo, Proton Bakery sales and marketing manager, said the sponsorship is part of their social responsibility programmes.

“This is our way of giving back to the community, which continues to support us. We’ve been involved in sport before and we believe that young talent will immensely benefit from this partnership,” said Bodzo.

Last year Proton Bakery assisted the national women’s rugby team when it toured Dublin, Ireland.

Renowned boxer Charles Manyuchi also had an endorsement deal with Proton Bakery last year.

At the beginning of 2017, Proton Bakery bankrolled the Mr and Ms ZITF bodybuilding contest and a pool tournament in Bulawayo. Last weekend, they sponsored a mini-soccer tournament in Bulawayo.
