THE battle for slots in the district teams for the Bulawayo Province Inter-District Track and Field Championships continues at White City Stadium on Thursday.
Clashing are schools from Reigate District which encompasses Sobukazi, Mzilikazi, St Columba’s, Methodist, Northlea, Entumbane, Luveve, Cowdray Park, V Mhlophe, Prestige, Liberty College and Montgomerry.
“Our schools will be in action on Thursday and Friday. We will select a team for the Bulawayo provincial championships,” said Cain Ncube of Sobukazi.
His school and Northlea are expected to engage in fierce battles for supremacy and are expected to provide the bulk of the team for the provincial finals.
Their athletes have taken in a number of events this season and will be sharper than the rest who are competing at a level beyond inter-house for the first time.
So many incentives lie ahead for the athletes including regional, continental and world championships.
The outstanding ones will represent Zimbabwe at the Mauritius Junior Championships and with better standards could even make it to the World Championships to be hosted by the United States of America.
