ZIMBABWEANS have been urged to remain vigilant and safeguard the country’s hard-won independence. Speaking during a graduation ceremony of section commanders held in Harare on Friday, Deputy Director Army Training Colonel Tapiwanashe Chikohora said efforts to destabilise the country by its enemies must be defeated.

“Let me also take this opportunity to remind you all to remain very vigilant at all times and guard jealously the hard-won independence which came after a protracted armed struggle,” he said.

“You must remain alert, suspicious and as inquisitive as possible in order to defer and defeat any hostile acts by our country’s detractors.”

Colonel Chikohora commended the graduands for being disciplined throughout their training.

“I want to remind you all that the hallmark of good leadership is discipline, loyalty and dedication to duty,” he said.

“We are all aware that the illegal economic sanctions imposed on our country by the West are still there. These have a direct impact on all Government departments and we in military are no exception,” he said.
