National Taskforce on drug and substance abuse today toured the Marondera drug and substance abuse rehabilitation centre to assess the level of response the province is making in relation to the drug and substance abuse scourge.

The delegation was led by the deputy national chairman of the taskforce, Cde Kazembe Kazembe, who is also the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage.

Before touring the rehabilitation centre, the taskforce first met with the Mashonaland East provincial taskforce to get an update on all the interventions the province is doing.

In his remarks, Minister Kazembe challenged the province to work as a team to conquer the war against drug and substance abuse.

He said, as a committee, what is important is to save lives

“Let us remember that our success will not be measured by the number of meetings we convene, but by the lives we save, the families we restore and the communities we strengthen,” he said.

“I urge every institution represented here to continue working together so that the Zimbabwe

Multisectoral National Action Plan delivers measurable and lasting results across Mashonaland East Province.

“Together, let us build a province where every child is protected, every young person is empowered, every family is strengthened, and every community contributes meaningfully towards the attainment of Vision 2030.”
