ZANU-PF is considering declaring the late national hero, Cde Enos Nkala’s Highfield house a national heritage site in recognition of the role it played as the venue of the revolutionary party’s formation in 1963. Zanu-PF was formed at Cde Nkala’s house number 4449 Old Highfield on August 8 1963.
Party’s spokesman Cde Rugare Gumbo confirmed the move saying Cde Nkala’s house and that of President Mugabe in the same suburb have the same status.
He said the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry has already suggested that the two houses should be declared tourist attractions to promote Township Tourism.
Some of the nationalists present at the house when the party was formed include Cde Mugabe, Cde Mukudzei Midzi, the late Cdes Herbert Chitepo, Leopold Takawira, Edgar Tekere and Henry Hamadziripi.
