National Hero Cde Matemadanda’s body lands in Sanyati

THE body of national hero Cde Victor Matemadanda has arrived at his Village 9C, Golden Settlements homestead in Muzvezve 1, Sanyati.

Hordes of people, including relatives and other villagers were at hand to welcome the body as it touched down after being airlifted from Gokwe.

It was sombre atmosphere as some people failed to contain the grief upon seeing the casket.

Members of the Mugodhi Apostolic Church where the national hero held a senior position sang hymns.

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF for conferring hero status on the war veteran.

“We are grateful as a province for the honour bestowed on one of our own Cde Victor Matemadanda,” said Minister Chombo.

His body will lie in sTate at his Sanyati home before being airlifted to Charles Gumbo Barracks in Harare tomorrow ahead of burial on Friday.

“As Government we have made all arrangements to ensure that everyone who needs to give a befitting send off to our gallant son has transport.”

Cde Matemadanda died on Saturday night after a short illness.

His body will lie in state at his Sanyati home before being airlifted to Charles Gumbo Barracks in Harare tomorrow ahead of burial on Friday.

He was described as a firm and outspoken person who sacrificed for the country.

Cde Matemadanda held senior positions in the liberation struggle fighters’ body, in the ruling party Zanu PF where he was once the National Political Commissar and in Government as Deputy Minister of War Veterans.

He was Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique and Eswatini at the time of his death.
