National Municipal Business Week switched

The event, running under the theme “Re-Aligning Municipal Services and Accelerating Development Across Local Authorities in Zimbabwe”, had initially been set for June this year. Public Sector Business Network of Zimbabwe sponsorship manager Mr Mfundi Ncube said the NMBW seeks to bring together local authorities and allied players to improve service delivery.

“The Public Sector Business Network is eager to support the ministry towards its mandate of leading local authorities with a direct conscious of serving the community with superior levels of service delivery.
“Our task is to engage investors and the private sector in creating sound synergies with local authorities,” he said.

Zimbabwe has a total of 92 local authorities. However, in the context of a largely illiquid market, both rural and urban municipalities in the country are increasingly facing the challenge of generating resources for projects including housing, inclusionary zoning, pre-development or acquisition financing, construction projects and financing projects to be completed on time.

The NMBW will consist of keynote presentations led by ministerial portfolio managers, private sector presentations on service delivery issues impacting on businesses, case studies, panel discussions and one-on-one meetings.

Some of the organisations expected at the event include TN Bank, Econet Wireless, Ernst & Young, Afrosoft, Agricultural Development Bank of Zimbabwe, PG Industries, CBZ Bank, Africa Steel, National Railways of Zimbabwe, BancABC, MTN (South Africa), the Development Bank of Southern Africa and the Industrial Development Corporation among others.
NMBW comes at time when development partners in the country have expressed a strong desire for a more harmonised approach to strategic analysis of basic service delivery systems.
