THE Natural Therapists Council of Zimbabwe has urged therapists in aesthetics (Beauty Therapy) and massage parlours to register so that they operate legally and protect their clients.
This comes after investigations by The Sunday Mail revealed that most massage parlours were operating illegally.
Natural Therapists Council of Zimbabwe (NTCZ) is a statutory board established in accordance with the Health Professions Act, Chapter 27:19, Section VI.
The council is mandated to register and regulate natural health practitioners, practices and the use of natural medicines in Zimbabwe.
In a statement, the council’s councillor and registrar, Mrs Ketty Rose said: “Therapists in Aesthetics (Beauty Therapy) and massage business need to be registered in order to operate legally. Since beauty and massage therapists work primarily on the skin, hair and nails of people in general, there is an urgent need to ensure that practitioners are properly trained.
“A task force authorised by the council and the Health Professions Authority will be visiting beauty therapists and massage practitioners across the country to engage them and business owners.”
The council encouraged the practitioners to engage and co-operate with the task force as the main goal is to implement and improve minimum standards, recognise and license qualified practitioners and guide unqualified practitioners towards appropriate training.
“Students are urged to register as well; those who have been working in these fields without formal qualifications are welcome to contact the council for guidance on approved training programmes and institutions,” she said.
“The council has a team that will assist with the process of registration from application stage through to full registration and membership where practicing licences will be issued.
“Registered members will have access to networking opportunities with other players in the industry through workshops and online platforms hosted by the council and other organisations that operate under the Ministry of Health and Child Care.”
